Hi
I have recently installed Token2Shell/Mobile on my Windows Mobile 6.1 device and successfully connected to a remote modem without changing any of the settings on connection setup (Dial Number XXXXXXXXX, Modem Device - default). However on subsequent attempts to connect using the same connection details as above I get the following lines of script:
Cellular line initialized
Dialling XXXXXXXXXXX
Connected to XXXXXXXXXX
Disconnected: line unavailable
Session closed
I know that the analogue line into the modem is fine and nothing has changed on those settings. No matter what I choose on the mobile device (for an analogue connection) I get the same response. The cellular line supports CSD as does my mobile device so I am at a bit of a loss as to why it worked and now isn't!
Any help would be appreciated - thanks.
As you're seeing "Connected to..." along with "line unavailable" message, it seems the connection was dropped by your wireless phone company's system.
Do you explicitly have a CSD or analog data modem service added to your cellphone plan?
As mentioned in the other post(http://choung.net/data/node/92), your carrier must translate and deliver the modem data to your phone. And depending on how your call is routed, carrier's system may not be able to handle the analog data modem connections.
If you have an explicit CSD service with your plan, it's your wireless company's responsibility to make sure your call is routed properly for a CSD connection, but otherwise it's kind of lottery, if you're lucky, it works, if not, too bad... :-(
Please also try soft-resetting your device. It's possible some background running applications became unresponsive.
For your information, it seems CSD or similar service is in fading out phase as the carriers seem to think it's eating away their precious data plan subscribers. (If CSD works, it can be used to bypass their data plan and setup dialup Internet.)
Anyhow, if you often need to make an analog data modem connection, we recommend setting up an intermediate server with a landline data modem. In such setup, you can first try direct "cellular line" connection from Token2Shell/Mobile, if it fails, SSH to the landline modem server and make a call from the command prompt. Considering the price of nettop computers these days, it's probably much cheaper then adding an explicit CSD service to your cellphone plan.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the response. To be honest I am not really sure whether the CSD service has been explicitly added to the mobile plan, but it is something that I have used before and just expect it to be there. There are anomalies to my issue though. I can access the remote system via the modem when dialling from my home location, which does not have 3G coverage and only connects with Edge data transfer rates at best. But when I am at work which has 3G and HSDPA coverage I cannot connect and get the connection issues as detailed before. I have not changed any of the settings between the two examples, so the connection baud rates i.e. 9600 8 bits etc have stayed the same. Would connecting whilst in the coverage for higher data speeds i.e. in HSDPA areas, be confusing the signal at all even though the settings have remained the same?
Kind regards
Mihael
It really seems like a problem with your carrier. As mentioned, CSD technology is *old* and no one really cares about it nowadays. If you call your carrier's support center, you'll probably have hard time actually finding a person who even knows what CSD is, let alone telling you whether they support it or not. :-(
When you are in 3G or HSDPA area, you are using a modern system and the carrier probably didn't even care about setting up CSD for that system. (We are not sure such new systems even have the support for CSD.) In other low speed area, you are probably using an *old* system and in old days, CSD was a must have feature. Since carriers usually have "don't fix it if it's not broken" policy, CSD may still be usable with that system.
