I recently switched to a Treo Pro (WM 6.1) after using mtoken on my Treo 700wx (WM 5.0) for years, so I had to download Token2Shell mobile. However, modem dialing doesn't seem to work anymore. Whenever I try to dial a number like I used to over the cellular line it just says:
Cellular Line initialized. Dialing XXXXXXX... Disconnected: Unknown reason. Session closed.
And that's it. Under my 700wx it would do this once if there was an idle EVDO session, but I've tried manually killing the data connection and cycling the radio this phone with on effect. Is this a known problem?
In order to make an analog data modem connection, you need to have 1) a carrier that supports such connection and 2) a cell phone that can actually make the connection.
1) Carrier
In landline network, when you connect to an analog modem from your computer, the modem on each end translates the signals directly. The landline network simply delivers the signals.
However, in wireless network, the signals are not delivered directly. The wireless network system converts the analog modem signals to wireless network data and the data is delivered to the cell phone, and the cell phone decodes those data.
So, your carrier *must* support the conversion. But unfortunately as such function is rarely used nowadays and requires additional equipments, most carriers do not support it.
Please check with your carrier and make sure they support such feature and your service plan includes it. This feature is commonly referred to as CSD(Circuit Switched Data) service.
2) Your cell phone
As mentioned above, your cell phone must also be able to decode the analog modem data sent through cell phone network.
Unfortunately, it seems recently released devices commonly leave out support for CSD. As mentioned above, it's rarely used in these days and the carriers don't like the feature since it can also be used to bypass their data plan.
Please check with your device manufacturer or carrier and make sure your device supports an analog data modem connections.
For a quick check, go to [ Start ] -> [ Settings ] -> [ Connections ] and see if you have "CSD Line Type" icon. If you don't see such icon, your device probably doesn't support an analog modem connection. If you do see the icon, please contact your carrier and make sure its settings coincide with their wireless network settings.
Hope this helps.
