Windows Phone 7 Support

Windows Phone 7 is certainly a ways away and I have no idea if you guys plan to release token2shell for it, but I certainly hope you do. Token2Shell Mobile is without a doubt the best ssh app for WM and, for a sys admin, is irreplaceable. I am sure porting to silverlight / .net may not be the easiest transition but I hope you guys are considering it.

We *WANT* to release a version of Token2Shell/Mobile for WP7S. However, our initial research shows that there is a major hurdle that we currently don’t have an answer for. :-( It seems WP7S does not allow accessing socket API. Socket API's are used to access raw Internet(TCP/IP) communication, i.e., sending/receiving raw binary data. We need to use that API's to implement SSH protocol.

WP7S does seem to support Web-style(HTTP) Internet communication with a simple function call. However, that feature is pretty much useless for SSH. In HTTP, a client connects to a server, requests data, receives them and disconnects. For example, if you connect to a Web site, all the connections used for loading a page are closed by the time it's fully rendered. But, in SSH, a connection remains open until you disconnect or logout from the server. A huge difference in technical point of view...

Anyhow, we are indeed keeping track of the progress of WP7S and we hope we can resolve whatever obstacles it throws at us! :-)

Thank you again for your interest and support of our software!

Best regards,
