Hi there,
I'm trying to make a simple tunnel over a host in my lan to an external webserver like this:
Server Address: jdoe@myserver.local
Port: 22
Gateway Mode: Local Gateway
Local Forwarding: 9999:slashdot.org:80
I can start the tunnel and use it from another computer by pointing a browser to phoneIP:9999,
but it doesn't work from the either of the phone's onboard browsers, neither opera mobile nor internet explorer. I've tried localhost:9999 and phoneIP:9999, but the connection just times out.
Any ideas?
I'm using WM6.1 on an HTC Touch Pro2.
Thanks!
Have you tried using the IP address for localhost, 127.0.0.1? Also when entering an URL, please try using the full address including the "http://", for example, http://127.0.0.1:9999.
Although, "localhost" should be automatically resolved to an IP address "127.0.0.1", it seems Internet Explorer considers the "localhost" as a computer name(not an Internet address) that needs to be resolved. Anyhow, using the IP address and explicit protocol prefix should eliminate any confusion that the Web browser might have.
Also, when you enable "Local Gateway", you should be able to use the IP address assigned to the device as you mentioned. However, for some devices, you can only use 127.0.0.1 to connect to the local loopback adapter. So, first try using an URL, http://phone-ip:9999. If it fails try http://127.0.0.1:9999.
Hope this helps.

Thanks a bunch, using 127.0.0.1 worked. Why localhost doesn't resolve to the loopback interface is beyond me, but whatever...
Looks like token2shell does everything I need it to, and very well at that.
If I buy it now, will I be entitled to updates? I'd really like to have the upcoming version with the resize fix... (see http://choung.net/data/node/100#comment-39)
We provide all updates free of charge, so you shouldn't have any problem purchasing a license for the current version and have it updated after we release a new version that includes the fix you mentioned. :-)
For your information, purchasing a license for Token2Shell/Mobile gives you:
- All updates between major versions free of charge.
- All upgrades to a new major version with discounted price.
An 'upgrade' is a major change in the product denoted by a new version number (e.g. 5.0 to 6.0). An 'update' is a minor release represented by a tenth change in the version number (5.1 to 5.2) or a maintenance release denoted by a hundredth change in the version number (e.g. 5.2.0 to 5.2.1).
