Local Virtual Computer Options

Use strict virtual computer name

When this option is enabled, SharePlug will use the 'Sharing Source Computer Name' as the virtual computer name. If you enter an IP address or Internet address with dot(.) characters, SharePlug will assign a default virtual computer name, i.e., "shareplug".

For a virtual computer name, please only use alphanumeric characters (a-z, A-Z and 0-9) and hyphens (-). The name also may not consist entirely of numbers.

NOTES

The virtual computer name is used as an alias for accessing the actual sharing source computer. However, the remote computer may not allow accessing the shared folders if an alias is used. If you need to use an alias that is different from the actual name assigned to the remote computer, please try adding the registry value ("DisableStrictNameChecking") mentioned in the following URL:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/281308/en-us

As far as we know, the sharing service provided by Samba (http://samba.org) server does not have such alias using problem.

Allow access from other devices

If this option is not selected, the virtual computer created in SharePlug can only be accessed from your Windows Mobile device. However, if you select this option, it can be accessed from other computers and devices as if it were just another computer on local network.

In order to access the virtual computer from other computers, you can use its name or IP address.

Please note that when this option is enabled, you may have a problem accessing the virtual computer from your own device. Also, if your device is connected via ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center and using the network resource of the connected computer, only that connected computer can access the virtual computer even if this option is enabled.

Map shared folders to \Network

When this option is selected, SharePlug automatically adds shared folders under '\Network' as mapped drives. Added folders will be automatically removed or unmapped when the connection is closed.

\Network folder is a special folder used by the OS for mapping shared folders and it's initially hidden. In order to expose this folder, you need to adjust OS settings and soft-reset your device.

If you select this option, but '\Network' folder is not available, SharePlug will make proper changes and show you a message box about the need for soft-reset. If you do see this message, please exit SharePlug and other running applications and soft-reset your device.

You can also explicitly add or remove '\Network' folder by using the menu in SharePlug, [ Menu ] » [ Tools ] » [ Add \Network Folder ] or [ Remove \Network Folder ].

For your information, when you access shared folders via [ Menu ] » [ Go To ] » [ Open Path ] in File Explorer, you can only copy or move the files, i.e., even if the file is an audio file that can be played with Media Player, you cannot directly play the file. You first need to copy the file to your local storage.

However, if you map a shared folder, you can use it like an external storage card. Hence, you can open a file directly from that folder.
